MLive: We love Muskegon. The digital revolution is here chamber president says.

Cindy Larsen has been preaching about the "new economy" for several years.

The president of the Muskegon Lakeshore Chamber of Commerce said she saw what it looks like Thursday when touring the new Muskegon Chronicle and MLive Media Group Muskegon hub at West Western Avenue and Third Street in the heart of the downtown business district.

The MLive Media Group Thursday launched a newly designed MLive.com website, opened media hubs in the traditional Booth Newspaper cities and began its redesigned printed product that has gone to three-day-a-week home delivery but seven day publication through newsstand outlets and on the Internet with the eReplica digital product.

During her tour of the MLive and Chronicle news, advertising and marketing hub at 379 W. Western in the lower level of the Sidock Building, Larsen took time to reflect on the global, digital revolution being played out in the Muskegon area.

Mobile Site vs. Mobile-Friendly vs. Mobile App. Which is right?

Mobile Internet use is skyrocketing, with smartphone and tablet usage growing dramatically in the last year alone. If you're thinking of capitalizing on this, make sure you know the difference between a mobile-friendly site versus a mobile site.

Mobile-Friendly
A mobile-friendly web site conforms to web standards for displaying on a desktop computer as well as devices like iPhone, Android, BlackBerry, etc. These sites use HTML, JavaScript, CSS, and HTML5 rather than non-standard technologies like Flash.

Muskegon Chronicle: They're stout. Young professionals make pitch for brewery in Muskegon.

A group of local young professionals are passionate about the “beer tent capital of the world” becoming home to a craft brewery or brew pub.

As part of a "guerrilla marketing" campaign, 13 young professionals in swimsuits, hats and gloves were "stout" while in Lake Michigan's 38-degree temperatures last Saturday.

They love Muskegon to the point that 13 of them stripped to swimsuits and went into chilly Lake Michigan last weekend.

Muskegon Lakeshore Chamber of Commerce: New focus, new brand, new web site!

Muskegon’s economy and image is changing. With a new focus on the “blue economy” based on the county’s water resources and quality of life, the Muskegon Area Chamber of Commerce chose to update their moniker to match.

When they chose to rebrand as the Muskegon Lakeshore Chamber of Commerce, that’s when Revel got moving, as we’ve worked with them for 7 years.

The chamber’s new logo keeps the spirit of the previous, with ripples of energy radiating from our rebounding county.  The brand is an evolution of the look we created for the chamber three years ago. You’ll see new letterhead, business cards and other visuals around town with the brand.

Muskegon Chronicle: A 10-week challenge asks Muskegon County residents to lose 21,000 pounds

It's time to stop thinking and talking about losing weight, Muskegon.

Now is the time to lose 21,000 pounds in the next 10 weeks.

The One in 21 Healthy Muskegon County project — which aims to make the county the healthiest in the state by 2021 — has launched a community weight-loss challenge. The organizers of the Muskegon Rotary Club initiative are looking for 4,000 county residents to commit to lose 5-10 pounds by the end of the year.

“We wanted to do something in a big way and make it inclusive of everyone in Muskegon County,” said Luke Seward, the head of the Muskegon Family YMCA and the One in 21 Health, Fitness and Recreation Committee.

The 21,000-pound program participation will be run through a newly created website: www.1in21.org. The initiative and website officially launches Monday but is up and running now.

Revel + Healthy Muskegon County: Looking to be #1 with 1 In 21

We admit it. We’ve snuck a few too many peanut butter cups now and then. Plus, we like our Michigan microbrews at Revel.

It’s time, though, to get moving and get healthy!

In a study done by the University of Wisconsin, Muskegon County was ranked the 64th healthiest out of 83 counties in Michigan. Not the worst, but barely qualifying for a spot in the NCAA basketball tourney.

When Healthy Muskegon County decided to do something about that, they called Revel.

We got cracking on a brand that included the 1 in 21 logo and a new web site to help county residents get in shape and work toward a common goal.

When Logos Go Bad (or at least cause protests, piracy and other mayhem in Winnipeg!)

To celebrate the opening week of the 2011-2012 NHL season, we'd like to share a fun current events anecdote about when logos go bad (or at least cause pirated merchandise, pacifist protests, and other mayhem)

For those who don't follow professional hockey, the Winnipeg Jets have returned to the league after they were moved to Phoenix in 1996.  Fast-forward 15 years: when the Atlanta Thrashers saw diminishing revenues and attendance but rarely made the playoffs, the league and the team's new ownership group, True North, decided to move them to Manitoba.

Winnipeg's original team was named the Jets because of the Royal Canadian Air Force's presence in the city. The new owners decided to revive the old name when they brought the Thrashers to town to acknowledge the city's hockey past.  With the classic team name, however, came a new logo, announced a few months ago:

Muskegon Chronicle: Jason Piasecki's dream of a special day for kids comes true

This week 29 years ago…The Muskegon Chronicle said on July 18, 1982

An oft-repeated bit of repartee between mother and son had far-reaching and unexpected consequences. His letter to President Ronald Reagan led to Gov. William Milliken proclaiming July 18, 1982, as Kid's Day.

Today is Kid's Day. Officially. By proclamation of the governor. Signed, sealed and delivered. And Jason Piasecki hasn't forgotten.

Jason is the 10-year-old from Roosevelt Park who got the bright idea that since there is a Mother's Day and a Father's Day, there should be a Kid's Day, too.
