Top 5 Super Bowl XLVI Ads
Super Bowl XLVI between the Giants and Patriots will go down in history as one of the greatest Super Bowls of all time. On the other hand, the commercials fell a bit flat. From Dirty Harry to Ferris Bueller, here's our annual review and picks for the best ads.
1) Chrysler: Halftime in America
Chrysler and Clint Eastwood remind us that Detroit's auto industry is on the comeback, and challenge us to ask what's next.
2) Honda: Matthew's Day Off
Released in the days before the big game, even a repeat viewing was enjoyable. Repeated exposure could equal better audience retention, which means a better chance for a Honda CR-V sales boost.
3) Volkswagen: The Dog Strikes Back
What starts as a good ad for Volkswagen gets even better at the end. Thankfully, it avoids the "Han/Greedo shot first" debate.
4) Doritos: Man's Best Friend
A great case of tail-wags-the-dog. Or maybe dog-wags-the-man.
5) Sketchers: GOrun Mr. Quiggly
Maybe we have a soft spot for dogs, but they seemed to be the underlying motif of the best ads of the year.
Now for the best of the rest. We'd be remiss if we didn't mention these ads.
Chevrolet: 2012
Chevy wisely realized 2012 is the one year where apocalypse ads can be timely without the world actually ending. Between this and the NFL's "We Play For You", easy listening was the musical genre this year.
Dannon Oikos: The Tease
Uncle Jesse gets owned. Apparently the yogurt is that good.
General Electric: Power and Beer
After Bud Light Platinum left us scratching our heads and the Prohibition ad fell a little flat, Budweiser's best ad may have actually been this one primarily for GE.
