The heads of three innovative Muskegon companies are the finalists for the Muskegon Lakeshore Chamber of Commerce's 2012 Entrepreneur Award.
The award finalists are Jason Piasecki of Revel; Orville Crain, Matt Jacobs and Jeff Kempker of Klever Innovatons; and Garry and Charlotte Olson of Lakeshore Document Services. The winner will be announced at an April 18 luncheon at Watermark 920.
Chamber officials said the business backgrounds of the finalists are "worlds apart," but each has common characteristics making them successful business owners. They are creative, passionate and innovative entrepreneurs who are making a difference in the Lakeshore business community, according to chamber officials."Not only do they provide our community with in-depth products and services but each has had a positive impact on the community with the creation of new and much-needed jobs," read the chamber statement with the announcement of the finalists.
Piasecki is a partner with Revel, a Muskegon-based marketing and communications company with an office in Grand Rapids. Now with 14 employees, Revel produces websites and creates video and print projects while being at the forefront of the digital communications revolution.
Crain, Jacobs and Kempker launched a company in 2005 that produces a patented box-cutter, the Klever Kutter. In 2011, they sold more than 3 million units worldwide.
The Olsens, a husband and wife team, opened Lakeshore Document Services in Norton Shores in 1995. The company has grown and evolved with digital technology now providing Internet-based file management among other services.
The chamber began the business award in 1982. The first recipient was former Michigan's Adventure Amusement Park owner Roger Jourden
The luncheon speaker will be Jon Sorber, executive director and one of the original "two men" in Two Men and a Truck International Inc.
The award luncheon is noon April 18 at WaterMark 920, 930 Washington. Reservations can be made through the chamber website at www.muskegon.org or by telephoning 722-3751.
